Driving Privileges Restored After Decades-Long Record
Case Background
Our client sought restoration of his driving privileges after a criminal history that stretched across more than three decades. His record included a criminal trespass conviction, DUII convictions, and drug-related convictions, including endangering the welfare of a minor and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. In 2010, he was convicted of the DUII and lifetime revoked.
Given that history, the case presented a substantial rehabilitation question. The court was not being asked to overlook a single isolated offense, but to evaluate whether someone with repeated alcohol- and drug-related convictions over many years had made a genuine and lasting change.
A central part of that showing was the client's successful completion of an intensive treatment and rehabilitation program. His rehabilitation was reflected not only in his own recovery, but also in what he did afterward. He eventually became a counselor with the same organization, helping others facing substance-use struggles similar to those that had affected his own life.
Rights Restoration Outcome
We emphasized the contrast between the client's earlier history and the life he had built through sustained recovery and service to others. His completion of structured treatment, years of stability, and work as a counselor provided concrete evidence that his circumstances had changed in a meaningful way.
The court granted restoration of his driving privileges. The result was significant because it showed that even a lengthy and serious criminal history does not necessarily foreclose relief where the evidence supports genuine rehabilitation over time.
For the client, restoration marked an important step forward and recognized the substantial distance between his past conduct and the stable, service-oriented life he had established.
